MY SKINCARE INGREDIENTS FROM MOM'S KITCHEN

natural skincare ingredients

Whenever we buy any product related to skincare most of us always read the label on it having names of almost all the medicinal plants of the world and it gives us that label of satisfaction like..."Wow...it will be amazing for my skin." The part we overlook is it also has lots of chemical compounds as preservatives to make it stay longer. And these chemicals can harm our skin to a great extent.

Actually, we know everything but we never try to apply them because those boxes behind glass cases look much more attractive. And the fun fact is things which can actually help us are very easily available either in the house or surroundings. Very common stuff like....lemon, sugar, honey, cucumber, turmeric, aloe vera, rice flour, tomatoes, etc. can actually nourish our skin. But it's the modern era and ironically we love to apply a moisturizer having these words written on it than the fresh ingredients from the garden or market.

I also use products of different brands but there is still a section in my skincare routine that contains all fresh herbal homely things. I am going to share my best five of them. Let's see.....

TURMERIC :

Turmeric, the most used spice of Indian food. It's actually a multi-tasker. Its medicinal value has been discovered from ancient times. Our grandmothers used to apply a paste of turmeric and slaked lime (choona) in wounds for quick healing. In Indian marriages, there is a whole other ceremony (Haldi) of applying Turmeric paste to the bride and groom to make their skin glowing on the night of marriage. Basically, turmeric has a very long and strong bonding with us.

: Benefits :

* The main compound in turmeric which nourishes our skin is 'Curcumin.'
* Turmeric has anti-inflammatory and lightening agent which helps to reduce dark circles, acne scars from skin and also lighten pigmentation.
* Using turmeric as a face mask with other ingredients keeps skin soft, moisturized, and hydrated. But never leave it on the face overnight as it can stain.
* It can be used as an anti-aging agent also.
* Turmeric is loaded with antioxidants which is very helpful in skin nourishment.
* It has antibacterial qualities to be used in healing wounds.

ALOE VERA :

Natural Skincare Ingredients

Aloe vera is a frequently used product in cosmetology. It has a beautiful name in Bengali -- 'Ghritakumari'. The name 'Aloe vera' is a combination of Arabic and Latin origin. Arabic word
'Alloeh' means 'shining bitter substance' and 'vera' in Latin means 'true'. Aloe vera is known as the 'Plant of Immortality' among Egyptians. It was a regular element of Egyptian Queen Nefertiti and Queen Cleopatra's beauty regime. From ancient times it was always there for skincare and medical purpose in various cultures like Greece, Japan, Mexico, China, India, etc.

: Benefits :

* It has been suggested by many researchers that Aloe vera gel has a protective effect against radiation damage on the skin.
* It helps to soothe sunburn to a great extent and effective for redness, rash, itchiness on the skin.
* Aloe vera gel is great as a skin moisturizing element. It contains 95% of water and helps in hydrating our skin with no greasy effect afterward. Just separate the thick jelly from the green skin.....smash it a bit and it's ready to apply. It absorbs easily in dry skin.
* Along with hydrating it is also a great natural cleanser for skin.
* It has an anti-inflammatory effect to treat an inflammatory form of acne.
* Aloe vera can be applied to mild freckles, blemishes, and dark spots to lighten them.
*Also has anti-aging and anti-fungal elements in it.

SUGAR :

It's very easily available in every home and full of some amazing qualities that can make our skin better.

Natural Skincare Ingredients

: Benefits :

Sugar is famous as a great natural scrubber.
* It's small granules make scrubbing easy for the face.
* In case of scrubbing sensitive skin brown sugar is more helpful than granulated sugar for its softness.
* It smooths and exfoliates the skin by removing dead cells from surface skin and revealing glowing skin underneath.
* It helps to brighten dull-looking skin.
* Sugar works as an anti-aging element to some extent.
* It has glycolic and alpha-hydroxy acid which helps to maintain younger-looking fresh skin.
* Sugar is humectant in nature which helps to keep our skin hydrated and moisturized.

I love to use sugar with lime juice. Wait until the sugar dissolves or you can use it as dust then apply on the pimple attacked area of the face for 10 to 15 minutes. I am an oily skin person and it works on me amazingly.

CUCUMBER :

: Benefits :

* Cucumber juice works on the skin as a natural toner.
* It can be used for all skin types but works best on sensitive skin.
* You can directly apply cucumber juice on the skin. Fresh cucumber slice or puree also can be used instead of juice.
* It helps to control excessive oil secretion from oily skin.
* For dry skin cucumber juice is a very effective moisturizer because it is full of water.
* You can just make a puree of fresh cucumber and apply it as a face mask for 15 minutes or a bit more. It gives all....brightening, smoothening, cooling, tan removing, hydrating...you name it.

GRAM FLOUR :

We Indians are well acquainted with it as 'Besan.' Besides making 'pakora' (fried snacks), it has the quality of nourishing our skin. Such as --

: Benefits :

* It's great as a tan removing element.
* Very helpful for oily skin as it absorbs excess oil maintaining moisture balance.
* Besan is a natural body scrubber.
* It helps to get rid of blackheads and blemishes.
* You can use gram flour as a paste. Add cucumber juice or milk instead of water if you want and it's ready for application.
* It also helps to maintain skin elasticity by tightening the skin.

CONCLUSION :

In our busy schedule, it's not possible to use these things always because it really takes time to make it ready. If you can that's amazing but if you cannot try at least to do it on Sundays or holidays.
So these were my top five. There is much more.  Actually, pick anything from nature and it has something for you. I generally mix and match things in my way to create a face pack type thing to apply. You can also do it your way because these things are natural so the chances of being harmful are less until you mix any ready-made product in it. But if you have highly sensitive skin it's better to consult a doctor.
