SOCIAL NORMS : LIFESTYLE TODAY

 : Some Weird Unwritten Norms of Society :

Disclaimer: I am talking about Indian society.

1. Couple means the man is supposed to be taller than the woman. Doesn't matter how much you guys love each other, understand each other your husband or boyfriend has to be taller than you. 

2. A woman is always supposed to marry someone elder than her. Otherwise, it has been said that the lady has somehow spelled the guy to marry her or the lady must have some problem with her.

3. A girl needs to pay her future husband a handsome amount in cash or in the form of a flat, car, AC, etc. for marrying her. Yes, I am talking about dowry. And most of the men have the same dialogue in this case.." I cannot say against my parents ".....irrespective of love marriage or arranged. And this rule is there in every layer of our society.

4. If the bride is black in complexion she needs to pay a lot more to the groom's family just to cover up her skin tone. And there is more....the girl has to be grateful to her husband for the rest of her life with the thought that 'she has been pitied and saved through this marriage'. 

5. If a family is really poor and they have an unmarried girl who doesn't match the so-called standard of beauty, the misery of that family is endless and unthinkable. One reason has been showing beforehand and the other one is society won't let the girl live peacefully being unmarried.

6. Virginity question is a must before an arranged marriage for the girl. Nobody gives a damn about the boy's status of virginity. In cities, people act sensibly to some extent but in many villages....the couple's bed has been checked after their first night whether there is bloodstain or not.

7. For some weird reason boys are taught since childhood that they cannot cry in public. According to women, it's a shameful act for a man and it reduces their manliness. And on the contrary, we are saying that crying heals our pain to a great extent.....then men are not human? 

8. When a man gets transferred for a job he can shift with his whole family, nobody questions that but if it is his wife, she needs to choose between her family and career. 

9. After marriage if a girl wants to support her parents financially there will be lots of typical, negative tongues around from her in-laws mostly. 

10. When a man acts sensibly towards his wife, respect her, support her, take the responsibility for their kid when his wife is out for work.....people tag him as a 'pet of wife' or a man without manliness, masculinity' because as per society manliness is - going against your wife, being rude to her, beating her, etc.

11. The best search engine ever - any guesses? BUNCH OF FRUSTRATED AUNTIES - they have all the data about you, trust me you don't know that much about your activities.

Actually....this is a never-ending list. The problem we know everything about how others should be, it's just that we don't know how we should be as a human being.
