SELF-CARING : LIVING A BETTER LIFE

Be Happy To Make Others Happy

self care

It was in April 2019. My internship was going on. I was staying alone in Kolkata, just 2 to 3 hrs away by train from my hometown. One thing I should mention here that staying alone was never an issue for me. As a matter of fact, I love it...my own little space...I totally enjoy it.
Every day I had to be there in school from 10 am to 4 pm and the most annoying part was we were instructed to wear saree every single day which was uncomfortable at its best. Getting ready was like a war. It was a nice experience as a trainee teacher though I was not really liking it.
One fine day I woke up in the morning and something was there...I don’t know how to explain it. I was feeling very low...disturbed....empty. After getting ready I couldn’t step out. I was sitting cluelessly and crying for no absolute reason. I called my father and all I managed to say was“I am very upset. I am coming home right now.”

I just took the first train I got home. I remember after reaching home I was eating the tiffin which I made to take away to school with my sister and I was feeling like 'finally I can breathe peacefully.' After 4 days I joined the internship again though I was not feeling like.
Those 4 days....feeling so restless, guilty...I was thinking — everyone in our internship group is doing their part. Why I am feeling so suffocated in all that?

It was all about taking a break. I was not liking that internship thing at all and there was no way to skip it. I could take a leave of a few days which I didn't.

We always use to say to people “take care”. What is this taking care of? How to take care? Is it only about having medicines on time?

Nowadays, take anyone for instance a student, job holder, housewife; everyone is living with a tight schedule. We start our day with ‘Oh no! I am late’ and end it with ‘I am so tired’ or ‘I need to get up early tomorrow.’ Career, success, goals, achievements, deadlines, responsibilities—among all these things we often forget ourselves.

Well, one theory is saying that you work hard—you earn more—then you will be able to keep everyone in your life happy. But, tell me— if you are not happy with your daily life what kind of happiness are you thinking about giving your family members?

If you are not happy with yourself you cannot expect people around you to be happy with you. Happiness is like perfume. If you have it then only you will be able to spread it. If you are upset, unhappy it will affect your behaviour which further affects your relationship with others. The main key to happiness is being happy with yourself which highly includes self-caring.

CONCEPT OF SELF-CARING:

life

Self-caring means taking care of your needs, prioritize your comfort, restoring your energy, spending some quality time with yourself.
To explain more clearly— passengers of flight are always asked to put on their life-saving equipment first before helping others—this is exactly the matter with self-care.

Life is also like a flight. Once it takes off you need to deal with it carefully. And for that, you need to take care of yourself first. If you really want to take care of your family, friends, relatives you need to be in a comfortable position first and for that, you need to take out time for yourself.

SELF CARING IS NOT SELF OBSESSION:

Many of us feel guilty to take out time for ourselves because we get confused between self-obsession and self-care. There is a fine line between these two concepts. In a self-obsessed world, there is only the 'me' thing that exists. Selfishness, self-obsession these concepts allow only the beholder's well-being. But self-caring is preparing yourself properly to manage responsibilities and duties of life. It prepares one to balance his activities.

Self-caring gives you the magical power of happiness to make others happy. On the other hand, being selfish and self-obsessed are reflections of a very mean, negative, unhealthy mentality and behavior.

SOME WAYS TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF:

It basically includes whatever a person feels like to do. What makes a person happy is good for his overall well-being. Still, there are some things which I feel many of us want to do---

1. Take a sudden break from a busy schedule. (not always possible though)
2. Set out for a trip alone.
3. Sleep well.
4. Read a book.
5. Book an appointment in a salon just to pamper yourself.
6. Watch your favourite movie.
7. Listen to your favourite music.
8. Cultivate your hobbies and passion.
9. Cook your favourite dish.
10. Eat whatever you want.
11. Go for a walk alone.
12. Maybe buying something you always wanted to for yourself.
13. Say 'NO' to something you don't want to do.
The whole thing is like charging yourself for a new beginning. Those who can do it, know its value, and those who cannot do their best to make you feel uncomfortable for having time with yourself. So live life to the fullest.
